Flat fee, hourly, or monthly retainer
For everything outside the packages above, we use whichever model fits the work and tell you which one on our first call.
| Model | Best for | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Flat fee | Defined projects such as forming a company, reviewing a lease, or drafting a contract | One price, agreed in writing before work begins |
| Hourly | Work with an unclear scope, such as negotiations or disputes | Billed hourly, with an estimate up front and updates if it changes |
| Monthly retainer | Businesses that need regular access to a lawyer | A flat monthly fee for a set amount of advice and review, plus discounted rates beyond that |
How our fee rules work
- Flat fees are fixed. If the scope in your engagement letter does not change, neither does the price.
- Payment in two parts. Flat-fee projects are paid 50% when you sign the engagement letter and 50% on delivery.
- Government fees are separate. Filing fees, such as the District’s $99 Articles of Organization fee or the USPTO’s $350 per-class trademark fee, are paid at cost.
- Changes are quoted first. If you ask for work outside the agreed scope, we give you a price in writing before we do it.
- Not what you needed? The first call is free, so you can find out whether a package fits before you pay anything.
What is not included in the packages
The packages cover the items listed on each card. They do not cover negotiating with the other side (unless stated), disputes or litigation, tax advice, accounting, or ongoing compliance. We will tell you on the call if your project needs any of these.
How an engagement works
